The doctorate program normally lasts three years. The first year is for completing required courses related to the specialty. At least 15 credits should be achieved. The last two years are for preparing and finishing the degree's thesis. At the same time, the PhD candidates should attend at least 10 academic seminars or lectures, and three papers must be published on the peer-reviewed journals as a basic requirement for applying for the PhD degree. The maximum study period can extend to six years.

The students will be conferred with the graduation certificate as well as the PhD degree certificate from Wuhan University of Technology upon their fulfillment of all requirements for the PhD degree.
